2025 Youth Leadership Competition by UONGOZI Institute for African Students   

The UONGOZI Institute is hosting the 2025 Youth Leadership Competition as part of the African Leadership Forum (ALF). This initiative aims to engage young Africans aged 18 to 25 in meaningful discussions about leadership and sustainable development. Participants are invited to share their perspectives on leadership through essays aligned with the ALF’s annual theme.

The competition provides a platform for young leaders to showcase their ideas, creativity, and vision for Africa’s future. Winners will be able to participate in the ALF plenary session, receive awards at a prestigious ceremony, and interact with distinguished leaders from across the continent.

If you were an African leader, how would you accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa?

Benefits of Participating   

  1. Up to five winners will be selected and invited to create posters visually representing their ideas. These posters will be displayed at the ALF.
  2. Winners will be honored at a prize-giving ceremony during the ALF Gala Dinner, attended by prominent leaders from Africa’s public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
  3. The grand prize winner will receive $2,000 and the opportunity to present their essay at the dinner event.
  4. For winners who reside outside Uganda, the UONGOZI Institute will cover travel-related expenses, including visa fees, airfare, and accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria   

  • Applicants must be African citizens aged 18 to 25.
  • Essays must be typed, with a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 700 words.

Format requirements: Single-spaced, Arial font size 11, 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins, and submitted as a Microsoft Word document.

Selection Criteria

  • Essays will be evaluated based on originality, creativity, language use, and relevance to the contest theme.
  • Applicants must submit a written statement confirming the originality and ownership of their work. You can download the template here.

Deadline: All submissions must be received by February 18, 2025.

This competition is an excellent opportunity for young Africans to contribute to critical discussions on leadership and sustainable development while gaining recognition and support for their innovative ideas.
