The 2025 Adeola Oyinlade & Co National Essay Competition is now open to law students across Nigeria. This prestigious event encourages participants to demonstrate their legal expertise by exploring the theme of tax reforms and their impact on national development. Winners will be awarded cash prizes, internship opportunities, and the chance to have their work published. Eligibility
The competition is open to law students enrolled in Nigerian tertiary institutions, from 100 to 500 levels. Graduates and students currently attending the Nigerian Law School are not eligible to participate.
Competition Theme
Taxation and Development in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap between Policy and Implementation
Participants are tasked with analyzing Nigeria’s tax reforms, particularly the effectiveness of current policies in fostering national growth. Essays should critically assess whether these policies are being implemented as intended and their real-world impact.
Submission Guidelines
- Originality: Essays must be the sole work of the participant. Co-authored entries or plagiarized content will result in disqualification.
- Format:
- Language: English
- File type: Microsoft Word
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, justified alignment
- Referencing: OSCOLA style
- Word Limit: 1,500 words (excluding footnotes). No images or graphical content is permitted.
- Submission Details:
- Essays must not include school names or personal details, except for the participant’s full name.
- Entries should be emailed to admin@adeolaoyinlade.com with the subject line: “The 2025 Adeola Oyinlade & Co National Essay Competition for Law Students in All Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria“.
- Deadline: All submissions must be received by midnight on 21 February 2025. Late entries will not be considered.

Evaluation Criteria
Essays will be judged based on:
- Originality and creativity
- Clarity and strength of arguments
- Depth of analysis and relevance to the theme

Prizes
- 1st Place: ₦300,000 + Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co + Publication on Mondaq
- 2nd Place: ₦200,000 + Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co
- 3rd Place: ₦100,000 + Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co
- 4th to 10th Place: ₦50,000 each + Internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co
- Certificates: All qualifying participants will receive certificates of participation.

Winners will be selected solely based on merit. The competition does not involve public voting, social media sharing, or any form of popularity contest.
