University of Kent Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarship  

The scholarship is open to applicants from all academic disciplines. Selection is based on academic excellence, achievements in the candidate’s field, communication skills, and their involvement in the University community.

Eligibility Criteria for the Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarship

• Hold or expect to receive a Bachelor’s degree (1st or 2.1 class) or a Master’s degree (merit or distinction) from the University of Kent.
• Have secured an offer for a full-time or part-time PhD research program at the University of Kent for the 2025/26 academic year.
• Demonstrate active participation in the University community, such as through Students’ Union activities, sports, volunteering, or serving as a student representative on University committees.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to:

i. Clearly explain their research to non-specialists.

ii. Share their enthusiasm for their research with a broader audience.

• Highlight the broader significance of their research to the selection panel.

i. Be willing to represent the University and their field as an ambassador.

ii. Be available for a video interview on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Undergraduates applying to study at any University of Kent campus (Canterbury, Medway, or Paris) are eligible to apply.

Scholarship Benefits

The Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarship includes: 

• Coverage of tuition fees at the home rate (£4,786 for 2024/25).
• A maintenance grant matching the UK Research Councils’ rate (£19,237 for 2024/25).

Required Application Documents

Applicants must prepare the following documents: 

• A current CV.
• A supporting statement (maximum two A4 pages). Statements exceeding this limit will not be considered.
• An academic reference supporting the research project, which will be requested if the applicant advances to the shortlisting stage.
