The Nigerian Army is inviting brilliant young Nigerians to apply for this year’s edition of the Chief Of Army Staff Essay Competition.

The COAS Literary Competition awards up to N1.7 million in prizes to students at all levels from primary school, secondary, and up to tertiary institutions.

Theme of the Essay Competition:

  • “The Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development”.

All the categories for the COAS Literary Competitions are open to applicants between the ages 5 – 11 years (primary schools), 12 – 17 years (secondary schools) and all ages (undergraduates) respectively.

  • COAS Poetry Competition

Eligibility Requirements for the 2nd Edition Nigerian Army Essay Competition 2025

All entries for the Chief Of Army Staff Essay Competition 2025 will be guided by the following guidelines:

  • Application forms for primary and secondary schools must be completed online, printed, duly endorsed, and stamped by the Head of Schools, scanned, and uploaded here
  • Applicants for tertiary institutions are to complete their online registration here
  • There would be 2 levels of assessment. An initial assessment to shortlist successful candidates while the second would be virtual interaction with a team of assessors before the final selection of winners.
  • At any stage of the screening process, the entry that is discovered not to be original will be disqualified from the Competition.
  • All entries may be published in NA Journals/Periodicals.

Specific Entries Requirements

The specific entry requirements which applicants MUST strictly adhere to for each competition are as follows:

  • Topics to be coined from the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the people and promoting development).
  • Length of the essay for primary and secondary schools should not exceed 2000 words while those for tertiary institutions should be between 3000 – 5000 words.
  • Essay should be the original thoughts of the writer.
