2025 African STARS Fellowship Program by Stellenbosch University and Institut Pasteur de Dakar

The Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI) at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) in Senegal, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, are pleased to announce the African STARS Fellowship Program. This prestigious initiative aims to cultivate the next generation of African leaders in genomics, diagnostics, vaccine development, and biotechnology innovation.

Fellowship Opportunities

Advanced and Translational Training (ATT) Fellowship (4 months):

Advanced genomics for public health
Genomic diagnostic design
Vaccine and bio-manufacturing

Young Professional Program (YPP) Fellowship (12 months):

Research management
Innovation and entrepreneurship
Infectious disease R&D for diagnostics
Innovations to improve patient outcomes in Africa

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be born in and/or currently residing in Africa.
Age limit: 35 years or younger.
Hold a relevant degree (minimum Bachelor’s; MSc or PhD preferred).
Demonstrated experience in genomics, diagnostics, biotechnology, or vaccine development.
Strong leadership potential and commitment to advancing Africa’s scientific landscape.
Proficiency in English or French (knowledge of both is advantageous).
